SEATTLE (AP) – The Texas Rangers called up left-handed reliever Alex Claudio from Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday and optioned right-hander Phil Klein.
Claudio, 1-1 with a 2.89 ERA in 33 relief appearances with Texas during the last two seasons, struck out two and walked one in two scoreless innings in his only game this season with Round Rock.
Klein pitched three scoreless innings in two relief appearances this season with Texas.
“A left for right switch based on the number of left-handed hitters on this club,” Rangers manager Jeff Banister said before Wednesday’s game at Seattle. “The No. 1 thing, Phil Klein being the long guy in that swing role of only three innings in 10 days.”
